The 2023 LIF Championship kicked off in style as BJ Foundation delivered a resounding 6-1 victory over Olowolo in the tournament’s inaugural match, platinumnewsng.com is reporting.
Held at the Negbenebor school on Sunday, November 14, the opening encounter was a six-goal spectacle, setting the tone for the competition which saw a total of 35 goals scored on matchday one.
16 teams hailing from various parts of Edo State are vying for the coveted championship, with a lucrative prize pool of $150 up for grabs. The victorious team will secure $150, while the runners-up will be awarded $100 in prize money.
The 16 teams are grouped into four groups of fours. The top two teams from the group will advance to the Quarter finals of the tournament.
Beyond the financial rewards, the tournament also holds the promise of exposure for budding talents, with scouts anticipated to attend and identify exceptional players who stand out during the matches.
The grassroots tournament, organized by the Lion Izo Foundation headed by Amb. Eghe Iyekoretin Igiozee, aims to provide a platform for emerging talents to showcase their skills and compete at a higher level, fostering the growth of football at the grassroots level as well as reducing social vices within the state.
